TOP 10 MOVIES AND FILMS OF THE SECOND DECADE, 1910 – 1920

These are my favorite films from the period 1910-1919. The 1910s are an interesting time in film history.

Feature-length pictures became the norm, and Hollywood emerged to dominate the market, while the First World War devastated the European movie industry. Here are a current selections of the ten best films of the 1910s in order of preference:

10TILLIES PUNCTURED ROMANCE (1914)

Tillie's Punctured Romance is a 1914 American silent comedy film directed by directed by Mack Sennett and starring Marie Dressler, Mabel Normand, Charles Chaplin, and the Keystone Cops. The picture was the first feature-length film produced by the Keystone Film Company. The film is based on Dressler's stage play Tillie's Nightmare by A. Baldwin Sloane and Edgar Smith. Tillie's Punctured Romance is notable as being the last Chaplin full-length film which he neither wrote nor directed himself as well as being the first ever feature length comedy. Chaplin also plays an utterly different role from his recently created Tramp character in this movie.

It follows a melodramatic main plot about an abducted little girl, Cabiria, and features an eruption of Mt. Apart from being a classic on its own terms, the film is also notable for being the first film in which the long-running film character Maciste makes his debut.

01INTOLERANCE: LOVES STRUGGLE THROUGH THE AGES (1916)

Intolerance is a 1916 American silent film directed by D. W. Griffith and is considered one of the great masterpieces of the Silent Era.[2] The three-and-a-half hour epic intercuts four parallel storylines, each separated by several centuries: (1) A contemporary melodrama of crime and redemption; (2) a Judean story: Christ’s mission and death; (3) a French story: the events surrounding the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre of 1572; and (4) a Babylonian story: the fall of the Babylonian Empire to Persia in 539 BC. Each story had its own tint in the original print. The scenes are linked by shots of a figure representing Eternal Motherhood, rocking a cradle.
