Between 1966 and 1974 in California many unsolved murders happened that were attributed to Zodiac, one of most intriguing SERIAL KILLERS in the world. First murder that he committed, that attracted attention of the public, was a murder of Cherry Jo Baits, eighteen year old freshmen. Her body was found on October 30th in Riverside with puncture wounds in the chest and back with almost severed head. In November, in the office of local paper, a letter came with the words “she is not the first or the last”.
Similar letters continued to arrive after new murders, many of them were encoded. Due to zodiac symbols the killer got the name Zodiac killer that he used to sign himself. It is especially interesting that the murders stopped at 1974 event though the last letter arrived four years later- no one knows did the killer died, got caught for some other crime or simply retired. The case “Zodiac” is still open today and the notion that one man outsmarted the police and wasn’t caught is still tariffing.

The killer once walked post a pair of policemen – away from a murder. Police had been given the description of a black man and so the 5’10” heavily built white man they sow got away.

Police know that the Zodiac Killer murdered five people and attempted to murder two more. In his correspondences the killer claimed 37 victims.

From 1964 – 1974 he sent over 20 letters often claiming his real name was hidden in the contents. Four of his letters had ciphers – to this day only one has been broken.

He often taunted police in letters, including information only the police know about the murders to guarantee his identity. It was in these letters he called himself “Zodiac”.

The San Francisco Police investigated over 2.500 suspects. They finally made the case inactive in 2004, but then reopened it in 2007 due to new evidence.

He bragged that his hands were covered I model airplane cement to stop fingerprints. Fingerprints were found at crime scenes and on letters, but were often mixed up or ruined before analysis.

He often hunted young couples in secluded spots, killing his victims with a gun and knife. A he Lake Berryessa attack he wore a black executioner’s hood with his circle-cross symbol on it.

He once pretended to help a Kathleen Johns with her car, breaking the tyre so that would ride with him to a gas station. Suspicious of how long it took, she jumped out of the car and escaped with her baby.

In is letters the Zodiac killer makes references to films popular at the time. He called The Exorcist “the best satirical comedy that I ever seen.”

Dennis Kaufman has spent II years trying proves that his step-father, Jack Tarrance, was the Zodiac Killer. Evidence includes a black hood with the symbol and a knife with blood still on it, which was sent to the FBI.
