Russian Federation or Russia is a state located in the east of Europe or the north of Asia. By its surface it is the biggest country on the planet (about 11.5% of Earth’s landmass), but most of the country is poorly populated and by the number of residents it takes seventh place (after China, India, USA, Indonesia, Brazil, Pakistan and Bangladesh). The capitol is Moscow.
Russia is the biggest of all independent countries created by the destruction of Soviet Union. Today it plays a leading role on the world scene it is a member of G8, constant member of United peoples and a member of a group BRIK.
Russia is usually divided into western, European (around 3.500.000 km2) and eastern Asian part-Siberia (13 500 000 km2). Natural border of these two parts is created by the mountain Ural, which spreads in the direction north-south in length of about 2.100 km between North ice ocean to the border with Kazakhstan.
Russia has 37.000 kilometers of coastal area and exits to three oceans: Atlantic Ocean, North Ice Ocean and Pacific Ocean.
