Most people at least at some point thought that no matter how bizarre it seems, the best death is in sleep. However, you cannot simply describe the pain and suffering that victims experienced in middle ages. Many brutal methods of torture are at the expense of Catholic Church during inquisition time. Hundreds of thousand innocent men and women founds their death in the worst possible way.
Ottoman Empire does not fall much behind in brutality, which cut their enemies heads and various body parts in the most bizarre way, and impaled them in the stake. Impalement on the stake was the usual way of punishment in Turkey, Alger and Tunis during Middle century. Believe it or not, but when a long spike was showed in a victim’s behind and came out at the mouth, the victim lived longer than a day, left to die in most difficult pain and suffering. 10INTESTINAL CRANK
Tied down, the victims´ stomach is cut open and the small intestine attached to a hook. A crank would then be turned, pulling out the intestine inch by inch.
09LEAD SPRINKLER
Lead sprinkler is a large rattle-shaped object, with holes at one end, filled with mothen lead, which was then flicked onto victims´ bodies.
08TEAN ZU
Tean zu is a Chinese device where fingers are clamped into a vice, which is the turned, crushing them. A popular torture, it could be repeated many times.
07SPANISH DONKEY
Spanish donkey was used during the Inquisition. Victims were sat atop a sharpened board, wedged between their legs. Weights were added to their feet, pulling them down onto the sharp edge.
06HERETIC FORK
A metal rod with prongs on either end is attached to the neck. One end forced the chin up and the other dug into the sternum. Victims would die of sleep deprivation.
05RAT CAGE
A small cage is placed with the opening on a victim´s chest. It was then filled with rats and heated up, causing the rats to burrow through the victim.
04GARROTE
Traditionally popular in Spain, a victim is strapped to a chair with a strap around their neck. The strap is then cranked, tightening it and crushing the neck and spine slowly.
03THE RACK
Tied by the wrists and ankles to two cranks, the victim is slowly stretched. Pain-induced squirming leads to dislocated joint and even pulling limbs out of sockets.
02THE CHOKE PEAR
A metal pear-shaped object inserted into the sensitive areas of a woman or homosexual, or in the mouths of liars. When a screw was turned, razor sharp blades unfurled causing internal mutilation.
01THE JUDAS CRADLE
The victim is lowered onto a pyramid shaped platform – the spike entering the anus. Over the course of hours or even days, they are slowly pulled down onto the spike.
