10 INTERESTING INFORMATION ABOUT PLAYSTATION CONSOLE

Sony PlayStation is a console for video games that was developed by Japanese company Sony in the beginning of 1990s. The console was released for sale at the end of 1994, in Japan at the price of $387 (37.000 yen). Until 2006 is was sold in over 100 million copies. This console became a role model for other consoles that appeared just before the beginning of 20th century first off which is NINTENDO AND XBOX.

After the great success of PlayStation 1, in the beginning of 2000 second generation of this console appeared under the name PlayStation 2, which in only two days in Japan was sold in over million copies, and until the end of 2011 total of 153 million of these devices was sold. At the same time that was one of first DVD players that supported Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS. His successor PlayStation 3 which appeared in 2006, offered consoles with the capacity of 60 GB and 20 GB, which supported most games for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation consoles. Due to great popularity of this console, Sony decided to put in sales in 2004 a portable version under the name PSP.

Sony was originally called “Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo”, t the founders wanted a catchier name. The combined the Latin word “SONUS”, meaning sonic and U.S. slang term “Sonny” or “young boy”.

On its release, 20GB PS3s cost 805 dollar to make but were sold for 499 dollar. This contributed to Sony posting losses of 3.5 billion for 2007 – 2008.
