10 IMPORTANT DECISIONS THAT SAVED GREAT MOVIES

Every day we all make certain decisions and do it more or less unconsciously not knowing that perhaps precisely that decision can be decisive. As in real life, situation is similar in the world of movies. It is very hard for the director to chose and ideal scenario or chose the right actor among two top actors.

Mistakes often happen, but it is important that in key moments, you make the right decision, one that fulfills the goal in given situation. Making decisions is a process where a person is confronted with several possibilities of which it needs to choose the right one, after which there is a sequence of actions to transfer that decision into action. Would certain movies exist today and how would they looked like if decisions have been made that altered their history.

10TERMINATOR

O.J Simpson was almost cast as The Terminator in the James Cameron franchise. He was eventually turned down, for being considered “too nice” to play the killing robot.

09GLADIATOR 2

A script was written for a sequel by Nick Cave. In it Maximus is sent to purgatory by the dying Roman gods as Christ gains in popularity on Earth.

08ALIEN

The original Alien ending had the xenomorph bite the head off Ripley. The film ended with it mimicking her voice in a message transmitted to Earth.

07BLAZING SADDLES

Mel Brooks was requested to cut out the infamous farting scene. The head of Warner Bros hated this scene, but Brooks ignored him.

06BATMAN

Bill Murray was considered for Tim Burton´s 1989 film. Ray Liotta, Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen have been approached to play the caped crusader as well.

05BACK TO THE FUTURE

A Universal executive wanted the film to be called “Spaceman from Pluto”. Ralph Macchio, of Karate Kid fame, was also heavily considered for the role of Marty McFly.

04GREMLINS

Warner Bros, executives requested that most of the scenes with gremlins in be removed. They wanted the film to focus on the more human aspects, Spielberg managed to argue against this.

03STAR WARS

In the first draft of Star Wars, Luke Skywalker was an aged general, with Jedi Annikin Star-killer. Han Solo was also a giant alien.

02THE LORD OF THE RINGS

After arguing Peter Jackson down to a two movie deal, Miramax suggested more cuts. Cutting out Saruman and combining Gondor and Rohan were considered to make the book into one movie.

01DR. NO

After an investment of 1 million dollars, a great villain had to be created to battle Bond. The writers originally made Dr. No into a super-intelligent monkey.
