10 FORGOTTEN CIVILIZATIONS

Since its creation, man is trying to understand its existence and figure out where is the root of its civilization. Hard evidence about our past were always hard to find and even harder to prove. Our journey from barbarians to what we like to call today as “civilized society” remains a mystery to us and deeper we go our civilization seems inaccessible…

It is considered that a civilization begins to deteriorate as soon as it is created, and it is only matter of time how long will it last.

In the beginning of Xxi century “official” history still sticks to the thesis that human civilization started with Sumerians 7000 years ago and then continued with Babylon, Assyria, Ancient Egypt, China, India, through antic Greece and Rome to modern technological civilization of the West. Many civilization left behind UNEXPLAINED ARCHEOLOGICAL FINDINGS, which until today remain unexplained. Some of forgotten civilizations warn us only when some UNDERWATER RUINS appear, or dig sites that make us to think about them a little better.

10RAPANUI (700AD - 1700)

This civilization is notable for the huge Moai statues that still stand on Eastern Island. They also left behind examples of a language, “RONGORONGO”, which has so far proved indecipherable.

09OLMEC (1200BC – 400BC)

This is the one of America´s oldest civilizations, which originated in Mexico. Renowned for “colossal head” artworks, the cause of their extinction remains unknown.

08MOCHE (100AD – 700AD)

Built huge pyramids, called “HUACAS”, across northern Peru and used HUMAN SACRIFICES to celebrate rain. This civilization collapsed due to infighting caused by climatic changes.

07HITTITE (1750BC – 1200BC)

They were pioneers in the manufacturing and use of iron, their empire encompassed parts of Turkey, Syria and Iraq. Famous for their chariots, they collapsed due to civil war.

06NORTHE CHICO (3000BC TO 1800BC)

From Peru and considered to be the oldest known complex society in the Americas. Characterized by pyramids and agriculture, they left behind few traces of art.

05ETRUSCAN (900BC – 200BC)

Ancient Italian culture eventually conquered by the Romans. Had a strange non - indo - European language and are said to have introduced wine to France.

04MINOAN (3500BC – 1500BC)

Bronze ages civilization from Crete with extensive trade networks and an unknown language. Volcanic eruption, a tsunami or an invasion are theories surrounding their demise.

03INDUS VALLEY (3300BC – 1300BC)

The earliest urban culture of India accounted for 10% of the world’s population at its peak. A peaceful culture, no evidence of an army has been uncovered.

02CATALHOYUK (7500BC – 5700BC)

Settlement in Turkey, this civilization, saw transition from hunter/gathering to agriculture. It was built like a hive, with no roads and its people traveled by rooftops and holes in walls.

01YONAGUNI (DISPUTED: 3000BC – 400BC)

Pyramid and arch structures were found in waters off Japan, which some archeologists believe to be natural. Others argue they are man-made and belong to a lost civilization destroyed by a tsunami.
