Nikola Tesla was one of most famous world inventors and scientists in the field of physics, electronics and radio techniques. The most important Tesla’s inventions are polyphase system, reverse magnetic field, asynchronous engine, synchronous engine and Tesla’s transformer.
Also, he discovered one of ways to generate high frequency electricity, gave a considerable contribution to transfer and modulation of radio-signals, and his work in the field of x-ray is remembered. His system of alternative current enabled easier and more efficient transfer of electric energy over long distance. He was a key man in the construction of first hydro power plant in Niagara Falls.
10FACT No 10
Tesla constructed a 142 foot high metal mast in Colorado Springs. From this he could shoot out bolts of man-made lighting over 100 feet long.
09FACT No 9
Tesla created the first remote control by using it on a toy boat. Demonstrated in 1898, it was considered largely useless.
08FACT No 8
In his later years, Tesla became increasingly eccentric. He began “communicating” with pigeons, ate only boiled food and was obsessed with the number 3.
07FACT No 7
Thomas Edison tried to discredit Tesla´s invention of alternating current. Edison electrocuted animals including an elephant, using AC.
06FACT No 6
Tesla invented the first hydroelectric power plant. It was first used in 1896 to convert power from the Niagara Falls into electricity for New York City.
05FACT No 5
At the 1893 Columbian Exposition tesla used twelve 1000 horsepower AC generators. These were used to power 100.000 incandescent lights.
04FACT No 4
Tesla died in poverty at the age 86. Two days after his death, all his belongings were seized by the US government.
03FACT No 3
Tesla hoped his 187 foot Wardenclyffe Tower would supply the world with free wireless electricity. It was never completed and was demolished in 1917.
02FACT No 2
By the time of his death Tesla had over 250 patents registered. These included the spark plug, the radio and the tesla coil.
01FACT No 1
Tesla revealed plans for a particle death-beam weapon during WW II. After secret US military tests, Tesla´s papers disappeared without trace.
