From the end of Second World War until today, world was at the brink of nuclear was. World piece is threatened today, with their arrogant rhetoric, NORTH KOREA and their young leader Kim Jong II. World used to shake because of great powers of USA and SSSR, who threatened world piece several times.
In October over 50 years is approaching from Caribbean crisis in 1962. Story about this event tells us that world was at the edge of nuclear war. It was a matter of hours. As a response to locating Russian missiles in Cuba American were ready to start combat operations. From newer history it is worth mention the intention if Iran to develop their own nuclear program and constant tension between two nuclear forces, India and Pakistan.
10NORAD COMMUNICATIONS – 1961
NORAD communications go dead – a Soviet nuke is the presumed cause, B-92 bombers were assembled before it was discovered that a replay station in Colorado had caused the failure.
09U2 SPY PLANE – 1962 (CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS)
U2 spy plane enters Soviet airspace, so the US sends out F-102A fighters to escort the plane back. The pilots had authority to launch nuclear missiles.
08DULUT AIR BASE – 1962
An intruded triggers an incorrectly wired alarm, ordering nuclear jets to take off. The pilots, assuming nuclear war had begun, were only just stopped from launching. The intruder was found to be a bear.
07B-52 CRASH – 1968
A B-52 with a nuclear payload crashes near Greenland and explodes. This could have triggered the nuke, which would have looked a Soviet preemptive strike, but luckily it didn’t.
06TRAINING SOFTWARE – 1979
Four U.S. command centers receive data showing a full-scale attack from the USSR. Planes were launched and missiles initialized, but it was found to be an alarm caused by a computer training program for nuclear war.
05LT. COL. STANISLAV PETROV – 1983
Early warning systems show US nukes inbound to a Soviet bunker. The duty officer waited instead of retaliating and no explosions occurred. A system malfunction was blamed.
04NORWEGIAN ROCKET – 1995
A scientific rocket is mistaken for a US trident missile. The Russian president opened the nuclear doomsday briefcase for the 1st time ever but waited long enough for the rocket to be identified.
03COMPUTER CHIP -1980
A NORAD, screen readout announces “220 incoming missiles”. The nuclear bombers are dispatched. It was soon realized the warheads weren´t shown on radar and three days later it was found one computer chip had malfunctioned.
02SUEZ CRISIS – 1956
NORAD receives messages of 100 Mig´s being launched, unidentified aircraft over Turkey, a British bomber being shot down and the Soviet fleet moving. These turned out to be a routine escort, a flock of swans, a mechanical problem and a training exercise.
01PAKISTANI FRONTIER – 1990
Indian Army troops mass on the frontier and Pakistan considers nuking the Indian capital. U.S. intelligence observed atom bombs being loaded onto aircraft, before intervening to calm down both sides.
