Pirates are ROBBERS that conduct robbery at sea, and sometimes on the shore. Piracy was created in antic times but it was mostly spread during 17 century in the Caribbean. Considering that all that time exchange with colonies was conducted over sea, they represented fear for crews of those ships, and created large financial damage for many countries.
Today pirates mostly act in Pacific and Indian oceans and present a large problem for international trading. Piracy should not be mixed with pirating, which was throughout history a legitimate form of sea warfare. About pirates numerous stories were told and many movies were recorded.
